The detail

Everything else you may want to know

Tap any topic to read the full answer. Everything here is consistent with the Standards for RTOs and our written Student Handbook.

A USI is a 10-character reference that links together every nationally recognised qualification, statement of attainment and VET result you ever receive in Australia. It's free, it's lifelong, and it's required under Commonwealth legislation before any RTO can issue a certificate.

Don't have a USI yet? You can create one in about 3 minutes at usi.gov.au . Our team can walk you through it during pre-enrolment.
  • Free to create and never expires
  • Verifies your identity with Australian government records
  • Oban Institute stores it securely under Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)
  • You can view your full training transcript at any time via usi.gov.au

We set out the full course fee for every qualification in your written student agreement before you enrol — no hidden charges, no surprise add-ons. Your agreement sets out exactly what you will pay, when, and what happens if you need to withdraw.

  • Compassionate refund considered for illness, bereavement, family emergency
  • 14-day cooling-off window after signing your student agreement

RPL is a formal process where we assess your current skills and experience against a qualification's units of competency. If you can demonstrate you already meet the outcomes, we credit you for that unit — saving you time, money, and repetition.

How RPL works
  1. 1Free pre-RPL chat — your advisor identifies which units look likely candidates.
  2. 2Evidence gathering — job descriptions, work samples, references, prior certificates, workplace projects.
  3. 3Assessor interview — a qualified assessor reviews your evidence against the unit requirements.
  4. 4Credit granted or further work identified — you get a clear written outcome and reduced study plan.

Credit transferis different — it's the automatic transfer of units you've already completed at another RTO. Bring a statement of attainment or transcript and we can apply it on the spot.

Every Oban Institute student has access to real support, from a real person, from enquiry through to graduation. You're never stuck working out admin or assessments on your own.

Academic support

Direct access to your trainers between sessions. Assessment extensions considered on genuine grounds.

LLN support

Extra help with reading, writing and numeracy tasks embedded in your course, at no additional cost.

Reasonable adjustments

Disability or learning needs? We adjust classroom scheduling and assessment to remove barriers without lowering the standard.

Wellbeing + referrals

We listen. Where appropriate, we refer to licensed professionals (Beyond Blue, Lifeline, your GP). We won't replace clinical care.
